Indus Waters Treaty Irrevocable; Pakistan Will Not Allow Water to Be Used as a Weapon: Ambassador Rahim Hayat Qureshi

Brussels: (Muhammad Nadeem Butt)
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, has stated that the Indus Waters Treaty is not bound by a fragile thread but is a robust international agreement guaranteed by global institutions. He emphasized that using water as a weapon of war is a serious crime, and Pakistan will raise its voice against such actions on every platform.
He made these remarks during a special meeting with Pakistani journalists in Brussels, where he provided a detailed briefing on the ongoing Pakistan-India tensions and the regional situation. The meeting was also attended by President of Pakistan Kliess Kliess Belgium, Chaudhry Imran Saqib, along with other journalists.
Ambassador Qureshi reaffirmed that Pakistan is a peace-loving nation that desires to maintain relations with its neighbors on the basis of equality and mutual respect. However, he cautioned that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness. He asserted that the people of Pakistan and its security institutions will leave no stone unturned in the defense of their homeland, considering all possible options.
Highlighting the significance of the Indus River, he said it is not just a river but a cradle of ancient civilizations such as Mohenjo-Daro. Therefore, any attempt to block the natural flow of water is an inhumane and unethical act that Pakistan will never accept.
Ambassador Qureshi further stated that in the current Pakistan-India scenario, Pakistan has asserted its position effectively on both diplomatic and defense fronts. National unity and the professional conduct of Pakistani institutions have written a new chapter in the nation’s history.
He praised the role of the Pakistani media and expressed disappointment over the biased and discouraging approach of Indian media. He noted that Pakistani media has acted responsibly and conveyed the national narrative effectively to the global audience.
He also mentioned the recent successful operations conducted by Pakistan’s security forces, during which they demonstrated exemplary professionalism and sacrifice. These operations not only thwarted the nefarious designs of the enemy but also showcased the capabilities, coordination, and resolve of Pakistan’s defense institutions to the world.
Ambassador Qureshi’s remarks made it clear that peace is Pakistan’s top priority, but the defense of the homeland will be ensured at all costs.
Present at the occasion were Press Counselor Mian Sagheer Anwar Wattoo, Counselor Muhammad Adil, and Counselor Asad Abbas Awan, who also briefed journalists on the current regional developments and diplomatic efforts.
