The sacrifices martyrs Butt and Guru will never be forgotten, Say Speakers of an event in Brussels

Speakers at the conference on the martyrdom anniversaries of Shaheed Maqbool Butt and Shaheed Afzal Guru, emphasized that the sacrifices of these martyrs will never be forgotten.
The conference was organized by Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU) at its secretariate in Brussels, the EU headquarters. The speakers of the event were included KCEU’s Chair Ali Raza Syed, President World Kashmir Diaspora Alliance Ch. Khalid Joshi, prominent Kashmir figures Sardar Siddique and Raja Khalid, Member of JKLF Europe Sardar Zaheer Zahid and noted social figure Shiraz Butt, Veteran European Journalist Andre Barcs and former member of Brussels parliament Dr. Manzoor Zahoor. The Human Rights Activist Ahsan Untoo also spoke through a conference call from Srinagar.
The speakers highlighted that the great Kashmiri martyrs envisioned a liberated, independent, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. Their struggle and sacrifices remain a shining chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s history, and their ideals continue to guide the Kashmiri nation in their liberation movement. The speakers said, people of Jammu and Kashmir are pledged to continue striving to fulfill martyrs’ dreams and uphold their legacy for a stronger independence Kashmir’s struggle.
The conference was attended by Kashmiris, their sympathizers and supporters of Kashmir cause and representatives of human rights organizations.
Addressing the conference, Chairman of the Kashmir Council EU, Ali Raza Syed, said that the primary objective of the conference is to pay tribute to the great martyrs Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru as we honor sacrifices of these martyrs and their unparalleled struggle for the freedom of Kashmir.
Ali Raza Syed further stated that while remembering sacrifices of the martyrs, we will continue to highlight the Kashmir cause and the freedom movement in Europe and other international forums. About KCEU’s attention to approach the International Court of Justice to retrieve the mortal remains of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru from India, he said, we will soon announce our plan after consultation with the legal experts in the context.
It is worth remembering that India executed Maqbool Butt on 11 February 1984 and Afzal Guru on 9 February 2013 in and buried their mortal remains in the infamous “Tihar Jail” against the wishes of their families. To this day, India refuses to hand over their remains to their heirs.
Ali Raza Syed said that we hope through the International Court of Justice, we will be able to retrieve the bodies of these great martyrs from India, allowing their burial and last rites to be performed in their homeland Kashmir according to their families’ wishes.
The Chairman of the Kashmir Council EU also demanded the release of senior Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, eminent human rights activist Khurram Parvez, and other Kashmiri prisoners detained in Indian jails.
Ali Raza Syed called upon the international community’s organizations including United Nations, the European Union, and international human rights organizations to play their role in granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
